For the past month, when Jetpack shares my WordPress posts to Facebook, the image published on FB has large black bars on the top and bottom. The full size image uploaded to WP is 1280×851, and the Attachment Display Settings is set to “Large – 1024×681”. Jetpack also shares the image to Twitter, where it is displayed correctly.

Also, today when I created a blog post, in addition to the image with black bars the FB post only contained a link to the blog post. There was no text from the post. I ended up deleting the FB post and manually posting a link. When posting the link manually on FB, the image is displayed correctly and FB posts text from the blog below the image. That’s how I would prefer it to be displayed when Jetpack posts it.

Here is a link to today’s blog post: https://composed-bits.org/2015/10/decay/
That post and the previous two on my blog displayed the black bars when shared to FB. My FB profile is https://www.facebook.com/mabland and I have made one of the Jetpack posts public so you can see it there with the black bars.

    Hello:

Thanks for that report! We thought we had this issue resolved, so I’ve opened up a new issue with our development team and hopefully I’ll have more information soon.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you!

Is this supposed to have been resolved? I got into the habit of deselecting FB and then posting manually. Yesterday I thought I’d give it another go. Black bars are still there.

    Quite frustrating.

Note: I am not using this Jetpack.

@fhithich If you’re not using Jetpack, I’d recommend checking the list of plugins on your site to find out exactly which plugin you’re using to publish your posts on Facebook. You can then contact the plugin authors for help.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

I tried to install Jetpack; entered my WordPress URL(https://fhithich.wordpress.com) and got the message: “Your site is safely hosted at WordPress.com which means you already have most of the Jetpack goodness right out of the box.”

But couldn’t find it listed under plugins – only Shopify, Ecwid, and Gumroad which I haven’t a clue what they are about. Plus the ubiquitous button asking me to upgrade. So absolutely none the wiser.

Your site is safely hosted at WordPress.com which means you already have most of the Jetpack goodness right out of the box.

That’s the key information here. Your site is hosted at WordPress.com. You don’t need plugins, WordPress.com already comes with pre-installed plugins for you.

I’d suggest contacting WordPress.com support here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I’m also getting black bars in the images Jetpack posts to Facebook when using Publisize. Is there a fix?
