When I would activate Really Simple SSL I would get logged out and when I logged back in URLs had been updated to https. The two entries in General Settings – WordPress Address (URL) Site Address (URL) were also updated to https.

My understanding is that I don’t need RSS with the use of SG Optimizer. Do I have to manually change those two fields in General Settings to read https://www….? Or do I leave them alone?

    Thanks

You don’t need to use Really Simple SSL. There are two configurations in SG Optimizer both in the Environment Optimization tab:

Enable HTTPS – once you click this, we will configure your site properly and place the necessary redirect so all your traffic goes through HTTPS. In 99% of the cases that’s all you need to do! After you do so, please open your site and check your pages if they show a green padlock and if there are insecure content issues. If not – you’re good to go ?? Note, that it is normal to be logged out when you login and enable this functionality. That’s because of the redirect we place to route all traffic through HTTPS. Just login anew and all will be good.

Fix Insecure Content – some themes and devs do stuff that’s not really recommended like including resources directly into the theme files for example from full URLs like http:/domain.com/image.jpg. This results in Insecure Content errors (strikethrough padlock on your browser). So, if you see erroes after you Enable HTTPS, only then enable this check. If all is working fine, it is perfectly OK to leave it disabled.

So do I change these fields “WordPress Address (URL) Site Address (URL)” or leave them alone?

    Thank you!

Enabling HTTPS from the plugin will fix that too, you don’t need to do anything.

I have that enabled and “WordPress Address (URL) Site Address (URL)” still show https://

You said “Enabling HTTPS from the plugin will fix that too”

    Do I ignore those settings??

Enable the SSL option from the SG Optimzer plugin and then logout and login anew you should see the new configuration.

    Enable HTTPS – ON
Fix Insecure Content – OFF unless you need it

Make sure you clear your caches too ??

Hristo, I’m sorry to inform you that in my case SG Optimizer is not work as expected. Even though i switch on “Fix Insecure Content” I still have problems!
Browsers flags my site as insecure.
I would rather use Really Simple SSL because I feel more comfortable as long as I’m using it in more than 10 other site hosted in several other services.
Unfortunately if I try to install it on my site hosted in Siteground i get a message that advise me I should not install plugin that are doing the same job.
Even if I unflagging HTTPS in SG Optimizer I still receive the same message.
I wish I could use SG Optimizer excluding Https features and leave the other options on.
    Any suggest?
I guess that the advice to not use two plugins for enabling Https is generic as long as I disabled Https from SG Optimizer, but I would like to have your opinion considering that you are the developer of the plugin.

Well it is a message that warns you to avoid duplicate functionality in plugins. Dismiss the message and continue the way you’re most comfortable.

I would use only SG Optimizer and see what’s not updated and fix it. Really Simple SSL is a good plugin, don’t get me wrong, it just doesn’t make sense to have a separate one installed and active.

    Good answer!
Anyway I really wish to use SG Optimizer, but it doesn’t tell me where are those files or links which are not secure! I should check each page and see into the page source.
Even if I flag “Fix Insecure Content” there still be some insecure link into the source page which (I guess) it prevent browser to flag the page as secure.
What kind of practice do you suggest to follow?
How can I find out which file or link not secure are present in my site? Should I check page by page?
Ok! I know that I could use Notepad++ or other tools locally on my pc, but is time consuming … Really Simple SSl do that job by scanning all the site. A good feature.
Thanks a lot for your help

Check your site with this tool: https://www.whynopadlock.com

or give me the URL and I will check it

Ok. Thanks a lot! I appreciate your advice. I will do the check as soon as the site is finished. Now it still be under construction.
    Thanks again
