SFTP authentication

    I’ve been trying backup plugins and have high hopes for WPVivid. I’m first trying SFTP backup to a server. When I enter the information, then click ‘Test and Add’, nothing happens and it is not added to the storage list. There is no error message explaining why.

    I eventually figured it is probably because the server requires public key authentication; for security password authentication is not allowed. Would it be possible to modify the SFTP section to allow key authentication?

    I have confirmed with our technical staff. In your case, a notice should be displayed on the top and you are told to fail to add SFTP server .

    It won’t be that nothing happened and no error popping up.

    So, it is recommended to open browser dev tool (by hitting the key F12 on Chrome) and add your SFTP server to check if there are any errors displayed on browser dev tool or not. Then, send us a screenshot of the browser dev tool. It will help us diagnose the problem.

    Thank you. You’re right, I missed seeing the error message at the top of the screen. It was there when i looked for it.

    But what about my question: Would it be possible to modify the SFTP section to allow key authentication?

    Key authentication for SFTP is not supported at the moment, but it is already in our task list of the pro version, we plan to conduct some tests in the future and will implement it if it is technically possible.
