While trying to setup WordPress so I can test it on my computer using localhost, I received the following error:

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the WordPress database.

    Are you sure it exists?
Does the user root have permission to use the WordPress database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to set up a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

I’m not sure which version I’m using, but it was installed in August.

The error means that the server name, user name and password are correct. But the database name you added is not correct. So please add the correct database name(database name you created at the time of WordPress installation) in wp-config file.

@interServer you’re a genius! I had database name (wordpress) spelled with two s.

    Thanks!
