Setup roadblocks

OK now I’ve finally been able to install and see my blog page, now I can’t connect with any of the Hostnames I originally started with, and can’t upload images from my computer because “Unable to create directory /home/parkhurs/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
Why is this so difficult?
