• I unsuccesfully attempted (multiple times) installing WordPress. This is what happens:

1: I choose the language (Dutch, but I also tried English)
2: I fill out all the details about my database
3: there’s a succesful connection to the database and I click on the button to continue installation
4: I get redirected to step 1 instead

    I’ve already tried the following:
    – manually uploading a correct wp-config.php file, this causes an error 500
    – deleting all files on the server en re-uploading all WordPress files
    – deleting the database and user and creating new ones with different names

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I ran a WordPress website from the same server previously.

  • Can you access the ftp?
In the FTP there’s a file named wp-config-sample.php. Download and open this file, fill out the forms (db host, username etc) and save it as wp-config.php, upload this at the same spot you got the wp-config-sample.php from.

That’s what I did, but it didn’t work. I contacted my host’s customer service and they removed some characters that were not supposed to be in the config-file. It works now, but I still think it’s strange that those characters showed up in the first place, since I used wp-config-sample.php to make my own config-file.

I don’t know if you used a word processor like Microsoft Word for editing or not.

But, never use a word processor like Microsoft Word for editing WordPress files!

Instead, locate the file wp-config-sample.php in the base directory of your WordPress directory and open in a text editor.
