• I am trying to setup email verification for new users. I have searched quite a bit and haven’t found an answer (maybe my terms aren’t the best). I did see someone say that it was built-in and I have also seen several plugins for this task. I am also using WooCommerce, so I guess it might have something to do with it. Really I am just trying to find out if the functionality should be built-in and where I can go to enable it, or if I need a WooCommerce extension or a WordPress plugin. Sorry if this is answered in another post, but I was unable to find a answer (or at least one that worked for me)

Thanks in advance for the help ?? !

  • Hi there @justuscook,

The email verification works like this: Go to Settings->General and make sure to check the checkbox next to “Anyone can register”. Then, log out and go to https://yourdomain.com/wp-login.php.

You should see a register link. Enter your username and email. WordPress will send a password to that email address with the username, password and login link.

There is a plugin named User Activation Email which adds a bit of extra security, perhaps this will do.

    Hope I could help!

    Thanks Daniel,

That is better. The user has a generated password that is emailed to them which helps. My promlem now is that WooCommerce auto logins in the user account after creation. It does also make the password to help with spammers but if they can auto login that kinda defeats the purpose. If anyone knows a way to fix autologin I’d appreciate it.

    Hi @justuscook,

I’ve worked with WooCommerce before but this is not something I needed to solve so I won’t be much use here. A casual search brought up surprisingly few results, here is one, but it’s not an ideal solution:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/24379214/prevent-automatic-login-when-register-in-woocommerce-and-redirect-to-login-page

With code this can obviously be done, but as it stands it looks like this can’t be disabled easily. If I find any evidence of the contrary I’ll let you know!

I saw similar results in my searches. I was trying to avoid changes that might be over written in a theme update or something. I don;t really have any traffic yet, so I think I will leave it as it is now and see if I have any problems. I also posted on WooCommerce support and still waiting to see what they say. Thanks for help though :D. I will post a solution when I find one.

I think this is a pretty big flaw in WooCommerce now that I come to think of it, it should at least be changeable via a setting. Do let us know if you find out anything!

@justuscook Any luck with this issue?

I haven’t looked at it in a while, but there h have been a few updates to woocomerece, but honestly have no idea if its been addressed.

    @justuscook No it has not really … =/ … I can’t understand why there’s no such simple option in woocommmerce settings… ;x

Yeah, it’s really amazing how difficult it is to find solutions for this.

    We have found this: https://weaveapps.com/shop/wordpress-plugins/woocommerce-email-verification/

    ?Somebody has used it?
