Settings won't "take"

I’m using the latest version of NexGen Pro with the Fancybox for WordPress plugin. When I select Fancybox in Other > Lightbox Effects and save, the gallery works momentarily, then the lightbox dies and the setting reverts back to the default NexGen Pro lightbox. Why won’t it “take?”
