I am trying to get to the Settings page to try this out (it’s exactly what I needed!) but it won’t load for me. At first it would give me an error message, Fatal error: Maximum execution time exceeded of 60 seconds. I found a fix for that by adding a higher time limit so it wouldn’t time out. But now it just loads with a black screen, and centers the text in the WP menus on the left, which makes me think that it’s just not loading completely.

Any ideas? Is it possible that my list of 100s of items in my custom taxonomy could be causing this problem?

Well, I decided to cut down on my list of terms and now it loads ok. A big part of my categorization is with localities, and I had them down to the county level in the US. I have finally decided not to go that deep so deleted almost 3000 categories. Now it works. And this post is here in case anyone else is ever as silly as me again. It’s also nice that things load faster now…..

Sorry for the late reply. The holidays have me pretty wrapped up lately.

This is one issue that I have been trying to optimize and/or fix, but there’s really only so much i can do on my end. It seems to happen a lot with sites that have a lot of values/variables that it is trying to query…which seems to timeout inside WP’s function. Most of which are ‘pages’ and ‘terms’ that come in large bulks.

That’s all it really is, from what I’ve seen, is a timeout error and the page doesn’t load. It’s just too much stuff, but there is a work around. I can’t recall exactly how, but I’m pretty sure it’s easy to google. I think it’s just modifying the timeout limit in your php.ini server file.
