Settings don't work with custom content folder

I’m using a custom folder instead of wp-content on my site. The plugin works as far as adding the functionality. But when trying to go to the options page there is a php error because the plugin seems to ignore the WP_CONTENT_DIR and WP_CONTENT_URL set in my wp-config.
