Settings could not be imported – Option Tree

I recently purchased a wordpress theme and had option tree as well, but when I try to import the settings I get an error “settings could not be imported”
Version of the plugin is 2.7.3.
So how to fix it? and what is the actual purpose of this plugin? Do you really need it?
