I am trying to set up MailChimp for the WordCamp Austin site so we can get subscribers. When I first tried to do it – there was an error that I am not the administrator of the site. Now there seems to be an issue with the connection to JetPack because I can’t even get to where I was before.

https://d.pr/v/ZIfxmJ is a video of trying to connect.

It seems like now nothing of JetPack is connected which poses a problem since jetpack is needed to run a lot of things on the WordCamp website.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there,

The Coming Soon plugin you’re using on that site might be preventing Jetpack from connecting, so see if temporarily disabling that helps.

And instead of trying to add the site from WordPress.com as shown in your video, can you instead go to WP-Admin ->Jetpack and try to make the connection from there? From my end it looks as if the connection already exists, but it’s broken, so you’ll need to first disconnect before you reconnect:

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to link it from within the site but I think since it is a WordCamp site and possibly on a multisite the error it gives that it must be set up with an administrator is someone beyond the normal admin role that I have. I am an administrator but if it is on a special system for all WordCamps I am sure there is a role beyond mine that maybe has to authenticate JetPack?

This is the error I receive. https://d.pr/i/hCQpHp

I am happy to add you to the site if you like or you might have all access already as a Happiness Engineer. I am also not the lead organizer for this WordCamp I am the lead for our web presence but not the full lead. Any help is much appreciated!!

    Thank you!

Yeah, you would have to be an Administrator on the site to create the initial connection, there isn’t currently a way to allow lower user roles to do so.

That error might also suggest it was disconnected on the primary site in the multisite network, meaning the super admin would need to connect it there.

We have a developer who sort of walks the line between Jetpack and core sites like WordCamp.org. I’ll ask if he has any thoughts on this, perhaps he even has the right access. ??

I am indeed an administrator on the site. Still gives me the error.

I reached out to someone on the community team, and they were able to connect the site for you, so it should work now.

Apparently the WordCamp sites use a different method for connecting Jetpack, and only a superadmin on the WordCamp network can do this, so if you run into further troubles with this it might be best to contact the community team directly.
