I’m trying to set up feeds on my dedicated Linux (Centos 5.4 x86_64) server for “feedburner” and using on Networked blogs on Facebook. On my free blog, setting up feed seemed to be nearly automated. But, I keep getting errors on Feedburner. Here’s what happens after I enter my blog’s URL. I get a page that says:

    Identify Feed Source

The feed URL you entered is:

    https://www.thisismyblog.com

FeedBurner discovered more than one feed at that address. Please select one to use as your source:
This Is My Blog ? Feed: https://www.thisismyblog.com/?feed=rss2
This Is My Blog ? Comments Feed: https://www.thisismyblog.com/?feed=comments-rss2

I choose: “This Is My Blog ? Feed: https://www.thisismyblog.com/?feed=rss2”

And I get the following error message:

“The URL does not appear to reference a valid XML file. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 2: The processing instruction target matching “[xX][mM][lL]” is not allowed.”

This error is similar to the one I get when I try to set up an RSS feed using the Feedburner HTML code. Any suggestions?

I look forward to your solutions oriented responses. Thank you.

    Dahna

It’s hard to tell without seeing an actual feed, but make sure that you have published at least one post. If you have, try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (themes can affect feeds).

If neither of those work, run it through the feed validator to find the problem: https://validator.w3.org/feed/

James, I’ll try these steps and get back to you about what happens.

Okay, I tried the https://validator.w3.org/feed/ with beingsocialmediasavvy.thewordie.com and got the following error:

It looks like this is a web page, not a feed. I looked for a feed associated with this page, but couldn’t find one. Please enter the address of your feed to validate.

I have NO feeds on my blog. I need to create feeds before I can validate them. How do I do that? Thank you.

You have feeds. Just look at your sidebar to the right at the top where it says “RSS Feed” and then links to “RSS” and “Comment RSS”.

For convenience, this is your RSS feed: https://beingsocialmediasavvy.thewordie.com/feed/

Thanks for your prompt response, James. I tried that feed in Feedburner and the Feed Validator gave me the following error:

It looks like this is a web page, not a feed. I looked for a feed associated with this page, but couldn’t find one. Please enter the address of your feed to validate.

When I click on the “RSS” or “RSS Comments” I get a page that looks like it’s parked on my service provider’s parking page. Is that a WordPress issue? Thanks.

Actually, none of your permalinks are working.

Try re-saving your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.

BTW, if it helps to know this, when I put the feed link in Feedburner, I get: Received HTTP error: “Not Found” while fetching source feed.

Hope this helps. I don’t know what the issue is.

See my reply above (looks like it snuck in just before yours).

Thanks, James! I fixed THAT problem by setting my Permalinks to the “default” setting.

Now I have another that’s different and about which I’ll post separately. Maybe you can help with that one, too.

    You’re welcome!

I might be able to help with your other issue, but I don’t see any new posts from you here.
