• Hello,

I’m about to set up a new multisite installation, and want to make sure I know what im doing first ?? It will be set up as a subdirectory install, as I understand bluehost doesnt allow wildcard subdomains. I would like to give users of individual sites the option to do domain mapping for their own domain names. Can this be set up for subdirectories or only subdomains?

Also, is there any reason bluehost also wouldnt allow domain mapping? And is it acceptable that this be an add-on domain vs the primary domain in public_html, as long as it has a dedicated IP? Thanks.

  • Domain mapping for work both subdomains and subfolders. It used to not be available for subfolder installs via the domain mapping plugin, but that was easily a year ago. Any info you’ve read about that is outdated.

The rest of your questions are more specific to your hosting environment. You’ll just have to try it. in general, no you do not need a dedicated IP to do domain mapping.

Hi my name is christian i am a webmaster with [link moderated] ?? have you tried a php script that generates the subdirectory manually from the outside like this sample
    https://www.hotrockhosting.com/test/make-dir/

here is the code it is in 2 parts.
    1 Html page & 1 PHP page
html post the variable to the php which in turns runs the create subdirectory command in the cpanel
