• I have updated to 5.0 and I am on the verge of moving this to a network site. As it is over 1 month old it will need to become a sub-domain site.
    1. I cannot see any reason why 5.0 has any problems with networking sites. Is there any cautionary advice please? Things I might need to look out for.
    2. I have two sub-domains created. 1 is a tool I use to manage multiple sites and the second is an install of NetCloud. As long as I avoid creating sub-domains with the same name I should be ok. Again can anyone see any possible problems?
    Thanks

There should be no issues with 5.0 and multisite. The only real change was Gutenberg and a few small changes. There are a few issues with a couple of plugins, but that should be ok.

In multisite subdomain, you set up wildcard subdomains in your hosting, then let the network control the creation of the actual subdomains in use.

To block yourself or others from making a subdomain that you want to protect, go to Network Admin > Network settings, and look for “Banned Names”. You’ll see some there already, like “www web”. At the end of the line, leave a space, and add the prefix part of the domain you want to protect. So if you want to keep the network from making a subdomain “manager.domain.com”, you would add “manager” to this list.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply and also for pointing out the wildcard, I had forgotten that element. And also for explaining the banned site solution. Brilliant.

Great! Happy to try to answer more questions, or you can mark this as resolved. Easy to create new topics if questions come up later.
