• I am using the Twenty Twelve theme in my new blog and I am trying to find a way to set the featured image of the post to appear as a thumbnail. I am using the new WordPress Block Editor to create my posts.

I have found this article [1] in which the author seems to be able to choose the size of the just-added featured image, but I have not been able to follow the instructions in the version of WordPress I am using.

I have also found this other article [2] in which the author manages to do exactly what I want: using a thumbnail image next to the summary text. He creates a child theme and modifies the content.php file.

    I have two questions:

    1. Should I follow the abovementioned path and create a child theme and modify the content.php? Not that I cannot do that, but I’d like to free myself from having to redo the process each and every time the theme is updated, as I’d like to stay up-to-date.
    2. Would you consider implementing a theme option to select the way the featured image, if available, is rendered?

Thanks in advance for your response and keep up the good work.
