I deleted my original home page and created another as a dupe of a different page. Now, as a result (I assume), my domain by itself routes to a ‘Hello World’ page. It seems that I can only set the new home page permalink to a page other than index in the root directory e.g., domain.com/home/.

How can I reset the permalink to just be domain.com?

    TIA,
    David

I’m going to assume your theme is set to use posts and not page for front page (which your “Hello World” page seems to affirm). The simplest way would be copy/paste your content into that “Hello World” post.

How would it be so set? I picked the theme promoted on a how-to video and the sample website was definitely page-oriented. FWIW, the permalink for the Hello World post can’t be set to domain.com either.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks!

A home page must be a Page, not a Post. When you set a page as the home page, you also need to specify a page to act as the blog index. The index page can be a new, empty page, you merely need to assign a title from which a permalink is generated.

To set your page as the home page, go to the Reading Settings and select “A static page” for the “Front page displays” setting. Select appropriate pages from the two dropdowns below the setting. The “Posts page” dropdown is where you select your blog index page.
