So my friend has a restaurant and uses Square POS in his store. He wants to let customers order and pay online for store pickup.

I’ve built his site in WordPress and want to add this functionality. What’s my best bet now? Will this plugin let me do this?

Need to set up so the store receives a notification when an order is made.

Have WooCommerce (which I’m familiar with) installed and now just wondering the next step.

    Hi @jthompsonjr,

When a purchase is made on the Square POS side, the order is not created on the WooCommerce site. However, if a purchase is made on the site using the Square payment gateway on the site, then an order is created on the site and the order is also sent over to Square side but with limited details: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-square/#section-19

For allowing syncing of orders between the two, we do encourage upvoting on the Ideas Board here: https://ideas.woocommerce.com/forums/133476-woocommerce/suggestions/15902653-square-sync-orders?_ga=2.200992490.532560173.1554129839-1412605785.1524766381

    Thanks,

I’m trying to wrap my head around this before setting it up.

So when an order is made through the website for an order, will the order show up immediately through Square? Looks like all we will see is the order number and amount, so we’ll have to use some other way for the restaurant to be notified they have an order up and what that order is.

    Is this correct?

    Yes it will.

Correct. Only the order number and total price will show when an order from WooCommerce side is seen on the Square account.

Great, thank you for the information. One more question– the menu (items) are already up and running in the current Square account. The restaurant owner has been using it for POS at the physical restaurant with no problems.

If I install and set up this plugin to start offering online ordering, importing those items from Square into WooCommerce, it should NOT mess up the existing system, correct?

I am very nervous about setting this up as I am looking to add this functionality without messing up the existing information.

    Hi @jthompsonjr,

From what I understand you are asking if importing the products that’s already in your Square account will sync successfully over to your WC site without affecting the products on the Square side?

Correct, as long as you have set SKU to your products and do an initial manual sync from Square to Woo, all it would do is sync the same products over to WooCommerce. From there you can enable to auto sync updates whenever changes are made on either end. Here’s full documentation on setup and troubleshooting: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-square/

Thank you again for your help.

Currently we do not have SKU for items in Square. I plan to add SKU to just a few items and manually sync from Square into WooCommerce to test everything first. Then add SKU and sync again from Square into WooCommerce.

Would this be a safe way to proceed?

My biggest concern is to not disable or destroy any of the current Square settings that are being used in the physical store.

    Hi @jthompsonjr,

Yes, doing the manual sync a few times is fine. Doing the manual sync from Square to Woo should not affect the products in Square. If Square itself has an option to export the product data, it would be a good idea to make an export before syncing as insurance ??

Looks like the manual sync worked well. Still tinkering with it so will let you know how it goes!
