Ok so I sell clothing and the Size of the clothing determines the price but the user can choose which fabric they want to use. I have 12 sizes and 12 different fabrics to choose from so that is 144 variations!

Is there not a way to let users select a size and fabric without having to create 144 different variations, in this case?

Also I want the price to be determined by the Size but the image show on the product determined by the Fabric selected.

    Any help would be great,
    Thank you very much!

  • You can do this with just 12 variations. You’ll have to create distinct variations for each size (since you want a different price) but for each of the sizes, your second variation option should just say “any color.”
I would suggest you globally create attributes; one for size and one for color.
Then go create your item (variable, of course) and under attributes, add each of the global attributes you just created. Make sure to hit the “select all” button below the box that says “values.” This will add all 12 of the options that you entered in your global attributes.

Next, click on variations. You will need to manually create each of the 12 sizes. So, select “add variation” from the dropdown (this should already be selected if you haven’t selected anything else)
You can hit it 12 times, or do this one at a time.
So, for your 12 selections, change the size option to each of your 12 sizes.
Leave the color selection as “any color” for all 12.
You will also need to click on each of the 12 (this is a little confusing…you click on the whitespace to the right of the attribute dropdowns) There, you can enter your prices, short description, inventory management options, etc.

When you see the product on the site, it will give two dropdowns: one for size and one for color. The price will change when they change the size, but color will have no effect on price.

    Hope this helps!

This is great, thank you! but I cant make it so the correct image shows. It seems if I set the size to determine the price, it also determines the image used, where as I want the product image to change as they change the Fabric.

    Yes,
When you are editing your variations (when you clicked on the whitespace) The first thing you see in the upper left is a weird blue image. Click on it and it will give you the option to upload an image for the product.
If your default form values are “no default color” and “no default size” it will default to the main item image. Otherwise, it will use the image for whatever’s selected.
