Set custom expiration date programmatically at checkout

I’m curious if there is a way to set an expiration date for a level at checkout based on user information (i.e. if they are changing from a prior level, how long have they subscribed to that level). I’ve looked into the Set Expiration Date Add On, but this appears to be limited to general dates for all users and not customizable for specific users programmatically. Is there a filter/action I can hook into at checkout that can either set an expiration date for specific users or override the expiration date set by the Set Expiration Date Add On?
