We have a variable product with some attributes lets say “colour” is the attribute. But not all colours are applicable for each variation. How can we only apply attributes to specific variations and not the whole variable product?

You only add the colors you want per product. You are not held to add all. You can add only the ones you want. Here’s a loom, hopefully that helps.

    Hi there @waynep16 ??

We have a variable product with some attributes lets say “colour” is the attribute. But not all colours are applicable for each variation. How can we only apply attributes to specific variations and not the whole variable product?

It sounds like global attributes are set up (related documentation linked here, for your convenience), and you’d need only some values set, per product.

Feel free to just keep the values required per product, as @serafinnyc mentioned, and showcased. @serafinnyc, thanks for chiming in, by the way!

I hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
We will be happy to help you further.

@serafinnyc thank you for your video explaining attributes, however still not quite right.

Please see my video here https://www.loom.com/share/fcefa806369144b48ed3459711dce53b which explains what I am trying to do which is only apply some attributes to certain variations.

@anastas10s If the attributes are global for the whole variable product how can I attribute specific attributes to specific variations of the product?

Please see my video which should explain the issue.

    Hi @waynep16

    Thanks for clarifying this further.

It sounds like you’d need custom code to achieve your goal and the below article should be a good starting point:

If you’re required to customize further I’d recommend reaching out to one of the services on our?Customization page.

I’m going to see if I understand the loom correctly, take no offense, but it is very confusing to be using the term{s} taste and flavor which are essentially the same thing.

However, that being said, you can use attributes in two ways.

    1. As a term for a variant
    2. As a term for a filter or both

Filters are more for sidebar filtering when users are looking for a particular size, color, or whatever and you obviously know what the variant side is.

I feel you are overcomplicating matters from a UX consumer flow standpoint, but if required, then I have to echo what @rainfallnixfig said and steer you in the direction of finding a dev to customize this ability and having done that, it is no small task.

This is not something that WooCommerce can do out of the box.
