    Hi
I’m developing a website using Updraft Plus Clone.
I set up WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Payment Gateway a month or so ago and tested in paypal sandbox, it worked fine.

Now when I test the shop all works as it should until the pay pal payment screen.
After clicking pay now pay pal seems to be processing the payment for a long while until an errormessage appears ‘service unavailable’.

Do you know what is causing the error?

    Thanks for your help

    Regards

    Hey there,

The “service unavailable” error is fairly vague, so the first step is to find out more information.

    1. Is the order being created, and the problem is just that the customer isn’t being redirected back to the site? Or is the order not created in WooCommerce?
    2. There are logs under WooCommerce > Status > Logs – in this case, I’d expect there to be logs for PayPal as well as possibly fatal error logs. You can select them via the dropdown in the top right-corner of the screen. Do these contain any clues?

I’d also like to understand your site better. Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response. Feel free to remove identifying information such as the site URL.

    Thanks!

    Hi Hannah,
Thanks for your reply and reminding me to post my solution.

Between December (when the order process was working) and now I installed WP SMTP Mail which didn’t work but I wasn’t worried about that and intended to fix it after the site was launched.

But I didn’t realise that Updraft Clone forbids sending emails and that was the issue with the order process, Woocommerce couldn’t send customer emails so the system timed out and gave a service unavailable error.

    Hey there,

That would do it – the return to the order confirmation page can be tricky, as there are a number of actions that happen under water. If any of them goes wrong, you’ll see an error, a blank page, etc.

I’m glad you sorted it out and thanks for letting us know!
