I installed your plugin and activated it and then I just clicked on the “messages” tab on the BP profile page and I get the message. Nothing else loads its just “Service unavailable” in plain text.

I also tried setting the messages to a single page in case that would fix it but I get the same issue.

Other than that, what information would you need?

Darn it, now I need to review the author replies and redact them all…

@seanwilk Please do not let anyone log into your site. That’s not safe, it goes too far and the plugin author risks getting into real trouble here just by asking.

@wordplus I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    • Ask for a link to the https://pastebin.com/ log of the user’s web server error log.
    • Ask the user to create and post a link to their phpinfo(); output.
    • Ask the user to install the Health Check plugin and get the data that way.
    • Walk the user through enabling WP_DEBUG and how to log that output to a file and how to share that file.
    • Walk the user through basic troubleshooting steps such and disabling all other plugins, clear their cache and cookies and try again.
    • Ask the user for the step-by-step on how they can reproduce the problem.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

    Hey,

Yeah sorry it was sitting in my spam folder. Since you didn’t get an error, I tried replicating the issue on another user and it works fine!

I think the issue was that the admin user had sent out a mass message to all 6000 of my users a month or so ago and it seems like buddypress messaging has an issue loading this many individual message threads. It now does load but won’t show any received messages. It does show them if you are on the page and then send the account a message but on refresh it shows no messages again. Though I think this is an issue more to do with BuddyPress messaging rather than the plugin.

I’m going to bulk delete all of those messages and hopefully that will fix the issue. I think I will look into getting the websocket version after playing around with this for a couple of days.

    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks for reply!

Thats interesting case of using the plugin, i will make more improvements for mass messaging in next versions and will look if its possible to improve load, when user have alot of threads.

    Thanks
