Server send a 404 error before redirect?

    I want to remove some entries from my blog from the Google index. I have redesigned everything and improved the SEO and I have eliminated entries that I do not want to have anymore.

    When I use this plugin, I have put a custom error page, but I do not know if the server responds with a 404 error. I think that if I use this plugin, Google receives a 301 response, which causes the old pages not to be removed from the Google index .

    Could you confirm this situation?
