• So I’m having sudden issues with Footnotes Made Easy (current version 1.0.1) and the server. I spoke to my host, Dreamhost, and they explained that the plugin was the culprit, as when it was active the server kept resetting every 30 seconds. The error is as follows:

Thu Apr 11 05:07:27 2019] [error] [client 74.125.76.34] PHP Warning: strpos(): Empty needle in /home/wp_w7t5yc/heyepiphora.com/wp-content/plugins/footnotes-made-easy/footnotes-made-easy.php on line 252

Haven’t had any issues with the plugin until now, so not sure what’s going on there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,

Funny enough, I’ve had exactly the same issues today and had to deactivate it. I’ve not had a chance to diagnose the issue though.

Could you find out from your host which version of PHP you’re using (also, who’s your host)?

Glad it’s not just me! It’s PHP 7.0 and Dreamhost.

Oddly enough – I haven’t looked at my site for months and got this error too! Thanks for posting, Epiphora!

David – If it helps, I’m with Bluehost, running PHP 7.0.33.

    Cheers!

Thanks. As it’s just suddenly occurred, without me pushing out any code changes, I was wondering if it was PHP related, as my own host has recently updated it. But, no, it’s not that.

But I have got it working on my site.

First of all, can you check in Settings -> Footnotes and see if all your options are blank? If so, did you change them recently?

If they are blank, try disabling and deleting the plugin. Then reinstall and activate. Is all back to normal now? This is what I did.

It appears all the settings disappeared and I think this is the cause. What caused the settings to go, though, is the mystery I’ve yet to resolve.

It could be this bug… https://github.com/dartiss/footnotes-made-easy/issues/18

I’ll investigate this as soon as I can and get a fix out.

I am astonished – the re-installation worked out fine. But why? ??

You know, I’m just as puzzled. Without pushing out any updates the plugin has just broken for loads of users (including myself). It’s bizarre.

I’m looking at this the best I can – I can see the cause of the error (all the settings have gone) but not why this happened.

Confirmed! All settings were blank. I deactivated, deleted, and reinstalled and settings are back. So far so good…

Sadly the problem re-occurs after some hours. My site was buggy again. Obviously there are no changes on my side.

Deleting and reinstalling with wp-cli did not work for me. I had to do it from WP admin, then it worked.

My site has been going haywire as well due to this plugin. When I delete and re-install it, I’m good for a few hours, but then I have the same problem again. I’m not technical, so I have no idea what the problem is. Thanks for any help you can give.
