Server is down, can’t log in at all

  • Hello, total newbie here–please forgive my ignorance.

    I am getting started setting up my site, and was attempting to force a redirect to https. I installed the simple ssl plugin, but was getting inconsistent results.

    I downloaded FileZilla and was attempting to log in, but was unable to log in. I got “incorrect password” and other errors. Then, I started getting the error “Could not connect to server.”

    Now, when I try to log into my dashboard or connect to the public-facing website, I get a “this site can’t be reached” error.

    I assume the problem occurred due to the way I was trying to log in on FileZilla, but as I am not able to connect at all, I don’t know where to start fixing it.

    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    If you are having trouble connecting to your webhosting account using Filezilla tool, contact the customer support team at your webhosting vendor. The support team can assist with helping you understand the proper login credentials to use Filezilla to your webhosting account.

    Yes for sure as a first & foremost thing, please connect with the server team to help you out to sort out the issue you are facing.
    Also, while the server team is debugging your issue, check whether if you can access the site using https://yoursitename.com (try accessing this link on a different browser or incognito mode of your browser).

    If it works, then the issue is specific to force SSL, in that case just rename the force SSL extension located in “wp-content/plugins” folder if possible.
    And see if the site works. Make sure you have a proper understanding of the activities you are doing & have proper backups with you.

    Else if https://yoursitename.com is not working then await for inputs from server team.

    If you are a beginner about WordPress and facing this issue, its better to contact your hosting service to assist you solve the problem. Or if you familiar with hosting dashboard, you can try to replace current username and password through phpmyadmin menu.
