  • Using an FTP tool such as FileZilla or your host provided File Manager, rename each of these plugin folder names to old-plugin_folder_name and makes sure to remove the additional files added by the caching plugin in wp-content folder – login to site – when done, delete those folders and manually upload plugins and activate to test if it’s an install issue with a poor web host or if server caching is not allowed on your host…

    – First, try contacting the hosting provider if the database server is online / if they have any other problem at their end, or they made any changes to your account, or if there are any limitations/restrictions, if the hosting package is set to Windows and not Linux, etc .

    – double check your wp-config.php file settings for the database name, database username and database password. This is where most errors occur.

    -Then check that you don’t need to change the database host from “localhost” to something else. You can get that info from your hosting provider.

    -Check you have actually created a database with the same database name as is in your wp-config.php file.
    -Last, but not least, if all that information is correct your database probably has a problem with it, and you may need to contact your hosting provider.

    @richard,

    Please note how the above issues you raised in response to the OP are related to the common matter of a plugin misbehaving?

    Sorry late getting back to you both:
    Thanks Seacoast Web Design i did what you said and it worked sort of, i can now access the dashboard but occasionally when i click on something within the database or update it i get a server error.
    Thanks too ricardusexa i’ve looked and can’t find anything untoward, i’ve contacted my hosting provider also and they say everything is as it should be.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    thank you esmi i took your 3rd option and it seems to have worked, i have since been able to connect with the Jetpack plugin and deleted the ones that jetpack had already encompassed. So now almost have half the amount of plugins as before. Thanks again for your help ??
