    Hi,

Since installing and configuring WP Mail SNTP we have had spam e-mails coming from it, with my host saying that it’s coming from somebody with the e-mail password who’s using it to send out the e-mails, with the problem with this being that the password has only been used in one place, in the settings of WP Mail SNTP as we use forwarders to send any e-mails to the e-mail address in question to other e-mail addresses.

When I changed the password to an even more complex one as advised by my e-mail hosting support, (with the one we had being using being a random generated one anyway), I got a DMARk alert, could this be something to do with this, with the only way I can see that somebody else has the password for this e-mail account is that it has come from being entered in my WP dashboard in the WP Mail SMTM settings and that’s the only place it’s been entered anywhere and it not even being written down anywhere.

Very concerning to me, can anybody please shed any light on this?

    Holmey

    Hi @holmey1,

I’m sorry to hear about the issues with your email password. We store the password in an encrypted format. I recommend scanning the site to make sure there isn’t any malware that has infected the site or file system. If something like that happens, it may be why this has been happening and would explain how someone used a password only stored on your site.

Regarding the DMARC alert, we would need to see the alert message to provide further information on it.

I hope that helps. Have a great weekend!
