I have been doing research on a search solution when I came across Relevanssi. I was excited to use it after reviewing the features. It’s on a dev site so I wasn’t too worried about UX going bad during testing. So I uploaded via wp-plugins admin page and then activated it. Played with some settings and couldn’t get it to function like I had hoped. I decided that it wasn’t for me, so I deactivated it through wp admin and then uninstalled it through wp admin. Then all hell broke loose IMMEDIATELY.

Upon deletion of the plugin this all happened in unison.
    1. Couldn’t reload plugins admin page in wp admin
    2. tried to visit front end of site and endless loop with no error or page load.
    3. via ftp I checked to be sure relevanssi folder was deleted and it was, so I went to check the db and couldn’t get into my db via phpmyadmin. No errors, just wouldn’t let me in.
    4. Changed my db password and tried to get in …nothing.
    5. Since it was a dev site, I tried to delete my db from cpanel and it wouldn’t delete.
    6. Tried to add another db via cpanel and it wouldn’t let me.
    7. Now, I can’t even access db’s from my other sites on the same server.

Ever since I installed and uninstalled the plugin, I’m unable to access, edit, delete or create any database on my server through cPanel

    I think it’s caused a mysql lock

I don’t think this is particularly a Relevanssi issue –?at least I’ve never heard of anything like this happening –?but a general case of bad luck and something going wrong in the plugin uninstall process.

Can you reboot the MySQL server?

Yes, Mikko, that’s what I ended up having to do. It was definitely not while your plugin was active, and it had something to do with the uninstall process + some definite bad luck lol.

Oddly enough, I skyped a close friend to help me debug and he actually mentioned that he’d ran into a similar problem on a site that was running your plugin (but while the plugin was still active). He and his team ended up coding up an alternative search engine instead. His issue was about a year ago, so while the two issues may seem related, I doubt there were, though his theory that mysql had some locked tables were actually correct.

I meant to update this post and got stuck playing “catch up” all evening, sorry.

I should note that I don’t believe it had anything to do with the functionality of the plugin while active. However, the fact that it didn’t uninstall correctly may be something to check out on the plugin side. I have no other plugins on the site that should conflict with the uninstall process, and I’m using twitter bootstrap.

It’s still in dev on a dev server with no active or demo users yet.

I’m running latest linux, php, wp, etc.

Maybe it was a complete fluke. idk lol. I hope I wasn’t too harsh on you, as I definitely wasn’t trying to bash the plugin’s features by any means. Really only trying to make you aware, in case it was something that needed your attention.

Odd that this shows 8 months ago, yet this was more like 2 years ago???
