I’m glad to have stumbled across your plugin.

Question: does the plugin split traffic between two urls, or does it alternate the content of the page on the same url?

I am concerned that if I send traffic to different urls, this will effect my search engine ranking (search engines might index and post the wrong page, etc).

Also, if it merely alters the content of one page, how does this work out with Cache Plugins, such as WT3C? Does the cache need to be disabled?

    Thanks for any clarification.

    Hi andrew55,

    Thanks for the question.

We utilise 302 temporary redirects to shuffle visitors to the variation from the master, this is based on the recommendations from Google in their webmaster guidelines regarding split testing.

According to their docs, they’re able to divine whether a page is involved in a split test or not based on this.

Any SEO value should remain on the Master and we recommend not linking directly to the variation from anywhere as SPT will take care of the traffic split for you.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Josh

Oh sorry, forgot to answer you caching question…

For WordPress based caching plugins we bypass them for the redirect, the actual pages themselves can remain cached if you wish.

For non-WP caching like Varnish we recommend adding a rule to exclude all pages involved in split tests.
