Forgive me if this has been mentioned before. I did look and none of the few posts that I found seemed to fully address this.

Many of our clients host at places that automatically upgrade their WordPress installations, including plugins and themes. Dreamhost, GoDaddy, some with managed solutions. It’s a great security benefit for non-techy clients who are too lazy/busy/scared to login and update themselves – and a hell of a lot more reliable.

Too frequently these clients will get a “[WordFence Alert] Problems found on ….” email. They are checking email on mobile devices, they don’t actually read the email, they just see the subject line and all they see is, “there’s a problem with your website,” and then they call us or forward the email our way.

The reason these alert emails get triggered is because WordFence will notice that an update is available before the hosting service has had time to install the plugin/theme/core update.

Customer education aside, since that’s it’s own issue, it would be awesome if we could separate Updates related alert emails from other types of Critical alerts. This way, for clients who’s WordPress is being managed we can uncheck alerts related to updates, but they can still get those important critical alerts.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion — we do have some changes to the alert options planned for a future release, which should help for what you need. I’m not sure when this will be included yet, but it will be mentioned in the changelog when it’s available.

As a fellow developer I appreciate what kind of effort it takes to maintain an operation like WordFence and make it work in the first place. We’ve recommended WordFence to many of our clients, those same that contact us when one of those regular alerts show up. Kudos to you and thank you for the positive response. We truly look forward to that update.
