• Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how I can separate the header of the 2011 theme from the body of the web page (so that part of the background will show through the separation) I am thinking it can be done by adjusting the margin in the css code, but I cant seem to make it work.

  • Why would you want to do that?

    well, I personally don’t want to, but I am working on a friends site and that is what he wants…

    Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

    Create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    thanks for the tip esmi. so once I have set up the child theme which file/files in the editor would I have to edit to separate the header from the body? I was assuming it would just be a matter of moving the header div tag and adjusting the margin.

    I think you should be able to do this using pure CSS.

    so i have my child theme set up, but I still can not seem to figure out the right way to ad a background image to the footer. I have tried editing the footer.php file as well as the style.css file. It should be one of these right? I am using a css line like this

    { background-image: url(image url here); }

    Unless you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem, no one will be able to offer much in the way of assistance.

    ok here is the link to the page. I would like to separate the header from the body. (I currently just have the image set up so that it looks separated. I would also like to ad a background image to the footer.
