Separating post unordered list by date header in category page

  • Hello, I’ve been attempting for some time to try and figure out a way to pull this off. What I need is a way to have a heading tag with the date and each post for that date listed in an unordered list in category page. Basically looking like this…

    • Article Name
    • Article Name
    • Article Name

    09/26/2013

    • Article Name
    • Article Name
    • Article Name
    • Article Name
    • Article Name

    09/25/2013

    • Article Name
    • Article Name

    ….and so on. My issue is that it wants to put the heading and date between each list item.
