• I know it’s possible to put archives and cateogiry links on their own separate pages rather than the sidebar, I’m just not sure. I’ve looked around and seem some references to archives.php but, honestly, I have no idea what to -do- with it or how to view it, for that matter.

Secondly, the WP codex itself just.. makes absolutely no sense for me and looking at it is like looking at alien language. So rather than send me a link to a page which won’t help, I’d like some human contact.

What I want from my categories page is simple – list the category links. Though on the same note, what part of the code makes it so that category links don’t show the (#) bit?

What I want from my archives page is a bit more. I have a little code snippet used on my sidebar so it lists my archives yearly and in descending order but I don’t know how to move that to another page itself.

On top of that when someone clicks a year, I don’t just want them to go to all the posts from that year, I want another page listing the months and the visitor can click from there to see all the entries for that month. I would ocnsider when someone clicks a year, a collapsable menu appears with the monthly archives then, but it’s not a requirement.

Okay, a bit of an update. I dived backed into the codex and have successfully moved my archives and categories links to separate pages each.

I am still curious about what part of the code/tag causes the (#) to appear or not appear next to the category link.

My archives page is set up yearly but I’d still like to be able to have it where when a vistior clicks the yearly link, the monthly menu is then brought up – either on a new page of via a collapasble menu – and from there the visitor clicks to see all the monelthy entries. As it is now, when a visitor clicks the year link, all entries from the year are brought up and that’s just too much.

what part of the code/tag causes the (#)

Never seen that. Care to show it?

Hmm… like how sometimes you’ll see the category list and it’ll show how many entries are in each category.. For instance.

    Me (56) or something..

    but sometimes it isn’t there
