I’ve had my website up and running now for almost two months ( https://www.acornbbs.com ) and I haven’t yet had it optimized for search engines. I’ve been told that “it’s easy…you can do it yourself”. Also “There’s lots of free advice on the web” etc. etc. However, I don’t know where to start, nor do I know how to do it.

So…can someone out there in SEOland give me some advice? I’m more than a bit lost.

I did download the platinum-seo-pack, but I can’t open the zip file. Can anyone help me with that?

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Here’s a few tips:

    1. You should be able to install Platinum or other SEO plugin directly to your site from the search. You don’t need to download, unzip, and move the files yourself.

    2. These SEO plugins allow you to enter keywords, descriptions, etc for each article. If you choose to enter keywords, stick with niche phrases and not general ones like “business development”.

    3. Two months is really early. You only have 4-5 articles and if you want real traction, it would be helpful if you provided more regular postings. This is especially important in the beginning. Publish weekly (some folks do it daily for a while) but keep in mind that you may be writing to an audience of one for a little while.

    4. Find forums and other more popular sites and start commenting there. Preferably, those are DoFollow and have CommentLuv.

Hi Gabe: Many thanks for your response and your tips.

Regarding your first point, (and I’ll try hard NOT to sound like Ned Ludd’s great grandson here), what exactly to you mean by “able to install Platinum and other SEO plug-ins directly to your site from the search”? How do I do that?

Could you direct me to the plug-ins you mention, such as the one for entering keywords, descriptions etc. as I’ve been hopelessly unable to locate anything like that. (As I said in my earlier post, I don’t know where to start!)

BTW…pleased to hear that I don’t have to download, unzip and move files myself, because it doesn’t seem to work for me and it’s very frustrating!

On the other tips you mention, I agree totally and I have a much fuller understanding of these issues. I’m holding off on other posts/blogs (and I have many) until I get this SEO thing done.

If you could help, I would appreciate it very much! Thanks!

    You’re welcome.

For instance, I use All In One SEO. To install it, you could follow these AIO install instructions.

    Give that a try.

Oh, forgot to mention that I personally install these by doing the search in the WP admin screen, not from this site.

    1. Click on Plugins in the left nav
    2. Do a search for what you want
    3. Click Install Now

Thanks Gabe. I’ll give it a shot! DS:

    BTW…I like your website!

Thanks! Best of luck with the install.

Gabe: OK…I’ve installed and activated the AIO SEO plug-in. Got a bit lost in the guts of the options, but I went ahead anyway. I figured as I get savvier in SEO, I can update the options later.

    Thanks again. DS:

Glad you got the install done.

Yes, you can definitely do more in AIO later. None of that is nearly as important as getting more fresh content up.

    Hi,

I work for https://www.goodwizz.com and it jumped up in ranking and in traffic in just few weeks. How we did it? Plug ins help but there are loads of off-site optimization that you would need to do to make your site reach a respectable ranking. Create backlinks- leave links back to your site wherever possible but only in high PR forums, article websites and blogs. Also, submit your site to social bookmarking sites. The more your sites build up popularity, the better it would rank in Google. Google ranking is all about building trust. The more trust you build the better it would rank. Also try and get your website listed in ODP- Dmoz for better rankings. Thanks.

Thanks for the information provided by all.I also needed it.

    Hello suchetan12:
Thanks for the info. I’ll give it a shot!

I’ve followed all of the advice that Gabe gave me. (I still haven’t added any more blogs, Gabe, but I’m working on two or three) BTW…I elected to go with Platinum SEO. Don’t ask me why, I guess I justr like the sound of teh word “Platinum”.
    Cheers!

Can’t go wrong with Platinum SEO either. It’s a good choice, not just because of the name.
