    Hi & thanks in advance!

I’m new in this, and now I have a problem and I hope you can give me an advice please…

When I see any of my ‘pages’ on the web (Not the ‘Front Page’ of my site) I can see normally the “URL + SLUG” that is “the same I have written “inside my page editor”. However I’ve realized that in my “Front Page” when you go to the web is seen “Just the URL without the SLUG”, but “inside my ‘page editor ‘ (of the same Front Page) I have written not just the URL seen on the web but the “URL + SLUG” complete! How it can be?

So, what happens with the “SEO Ranking” if I change (do it better) or just ‘cancel’ the SLUG of my “Front Page” and leave just the URL?

Then my main issue is that due to a memory problem (I will not take your time talking about this now) I can not access to my “Front Page” to “edit it”, however I’ve found a way to do it: I just ‘duplicate’ my Front Page (with a Plugin) and fortunately I can access to edit “the duplicated New Front Page” however “the SLUG changes”, is the new SLUG a problem for the “SEO Ranking I have already gained all over a year” with the old URL + Slug?

    Please, I need you advice!

    Thank you in advance!!!

    Cesar

    Front Page Slug
In order to better assist you, we’ll need more information. Can you please share a screenshot in which you highlight the issue you’re experiencing so that we can take a look?

In addition, could you please show us some example URLs where the issue remains occurring for you so that we can take a look at them?

    Duplicate Frontpage
If you duplicate your front page, this means there will be another copy of the front page on your website which will cause the duplicate content issue. You’ll need to make sure that there is only one copy of the front page.

Hi, thanks for your prompt answer!

    Front Page Slug
If you go to the web you ‘just’ will see the URL: https://gmc-peru.com/ (without the SLUG)
But when I go to the “editor” it has not only the URL but also the SLUG: https://gmc-peru.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Slug.png

As I’ve told you this issue is just in my Front Page (or Static Page), in all the other pages the ‘URL + SLUG’ you see in the web “always matches” with the ‘URL + SLUG’ I see and write in the editor.

    Duplicate Frontpage
First, the duplicated page will be not recognized as a new Front Page, just as another simple page… This simple page will be recognized as the new Front page only when I choose it (instead of the old one) in the ‘customizer’ as a “Static Page”

However, this new duplicated page has a new ‘different SLUG’ to that of the pic I have attached you first, and my question was:
If ‘this change to this ‘new generated SLUG’, or also if I change to a better SLUG (that is supposedly better) or extremely if I just cancel totally the SLUG (that I know that is not recommended):
Are these changes in the SLUG will affects my Google SEO Ranking (that supposedly my web has gained with the old SLUG I showed you before in the attached pic for being on the web more or less in 1 year)? Or the Google SEO Ranking is only measured by the URL without the SLUG? and any changes of the SLUG just will improve or decrease this SEO ranking? I have this confusion also…

    Thanks a lot again!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the post.

We understand in the screenshot that there is an option to enter a slug. What appears to be happening is that you have selected a page to be the front-page for your site. WordPress then shows you what the slug is for that front-page when you select that quick edit option.

Since we do not know your site or set-up we are not sure what would happen if you edit it. It may help the SEO of your site or it may hurt it. We are also not sure if by editing the slug a duplicate front-page would then exist. However, we do know that Google follows the links and indexes them. If the slug changes…that is a new link. Google will then index that new link.

If that is an SEO question you would like answered, we offer a separate email. You can email our SEO experts at [email protected] for a possible answer. Joost de Valk will take some of those user questions and answer some of them monthly.
