I’m using Yoast, it’s great. But, when I’m updating various pages and going through the SEO report at the bottom, for Keyword of Problems, Improvements and Good, it says that my keyword is not in the first paragraph?

My keyword is in the heading and the first paragraph, even after updating it still says 4 problems, with the keyword missing?

What am I missing, it’s doing this in quite a few pages?

This may happen when you have an image preceding the paragraph. Please review this knowledge base article: Warning: The focus keyword doesn’t appear in the first paragraph

    Hi,

    Many thanks for the feedback.

I have not got an image preceding the paragraph.

I will await Yoast to look into a fix for this?

    Thanks again,

    Batch

That sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
    2. Check for conflicts.
    3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

    Hi,

    Many thanks for your reply.

My issue is the Yoast SEO Plugin saying that ‘my keyword is not in the first paragraph?’ when it is. I fail to see how by running the checks on the linked page will eradicate the problem? If I disable ‘Yoast SEO’ the problem will still be there, it just will not be reported on?

There are other things that I have implemented from the article, but if the SEO error is as stated by Yoast, then I will not be penalised, as the error does not exist.

    Thanks again for your imput.

    Regards,

    Batch

    Hello,

Some plugins may add code and/or cause conflicts with the Yoast SEO plugin, so a conflict check is done to confirm that there is no conflict with other plugins or themes.

If you switch over from visual mode to text mode, is there any code that precedes the first paragraph of the default WP editor? This can cause the issue as well. However, if you are sure that the focus keyword is indeed in the first paragraph of your actual content, you can disregard the notification. Google will still be able to crawl and index the content.

    Hi Michael,

There’s no extra HTML visible in text mode. My focus keyword is definitely in the h1, h2 and first paragraph. So I will disregard this notification and trust that Google will crawl my site an apply the rule that Yoast is giving me.

    Thanks for your feedback,

    Regards,

    Batch
