SEO Meta Description Missing on Twitter

I believe that Yoast won’t output the Twitter data if the box isn’t used there.

Thank you as ever for getting back to me so quickly! Yes, I’m writing in Yoast box but it’s just not showing up on Twitter as of Yoast’s latest update. The meta description was showing up but now, all my tweets with post links have absent MDs.

Okay that makes sense that Google has your meta description because that is present in your source code, but the Twitter meta data, in particular, is absent. Check the setting here in Yoast to make sure Twitter card data is enabled: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/qGudJzlR

Yup, my settings were already as you suggested, but I changed them to large image just to check. But, still no joy on the meta description… https://twitter.com/lilithepunk/status/1256351813583994882?s=20
I’ve just checked and it seems to be on and off (despite very much having been on, and now blocking out the image on some) but gone entirely from 27 April (https://twitter.com/lilithepunk/status/1254869636371353600?s=20) so this does suggest something to do with their update on 28 April. As I’m not a Yoast premium member, they are refusing to enter into dialogue with me! Do you know what else I can try please?

Did you setup your facebook-settings as it is written in the twitter-description in Bens Screenshot (“add open graph metadata”)?

You’re right about the Yoast update. It says this in the changelog from the 28th:

“No longer outputs a twitter:title, twitter:image and/or twitter:description meta tag when there is already an og:title, og:image and/or og:description meta tag specified in the frontend output and they’re not specifically set to something else.”

This explains why the Twitter tags are missing. I’m a bit confused because I thought Twitter would just use the OG tags instead, but maybe that’s not the case.

A solution you can use now is to edit the Twitter info for the post and then the tags should show up. Here is where you can set the image, title, and description of a post specifically for Twitter: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/9ZuERXOy
