    Hello

I’m sure this is a Yoast or Twitter thing, but I thought I’d better do belt and braces and ask you too!

I’ve noticed that none of the meta description is showing up on Twitter when I post a blog on there, and all previous posts (I do one daily) have had their meta description removed – only the SEO Title is visible. Do you know what might have happened, please?

Many thanks and hope you’re having a lovely 1st of May!
    Liza

    Hi Liza,

I checked your site, and I see some of the Twitter metadata added, but the title and description should show up right here: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/xQuW7XPG

Are you writing a description inside the Yoast box below each post: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/8LujoAR8

I believe that Yoast won’t output the Twitter data if the box isn’t used there.

    Hi Ben

Thank you as ever for getting back to me so quickly! Yes, I’m writing in Yoast box but it’s just not showing up on Twitter as of Yoast’s latest update. I can’t figure out how to add a screen shot to this reply of the Yoast box but here’s a link to one of the tweets: https://twitter.com/lilithepunk/status/1255977751724638209?s=20

The meta description was showing up but now, all my tweets with post links have absent MDs.

The MD is present on search engines though, just not Twitter: https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=beltane+liza+frank

    What I am doing wrong?!

Thanks again and have a lovely day

Okay that makes sense that Google has your meta description because that is present in your source code, but the Twitter meta data, in particular, is absent. Check the setting here in Yoast to make sure Twitter card data is enabled: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/qGudJzlR

Yup, my settings were already as you suggested, but I changed them to large image just to check. But, still no joy on the meta description… https://twitter.com/lilithepunk/status/1256351813583994882?s=20
I’ve just checked and it seems to be on and off (despite very much having been on, and now blocking out the image on some) but gone entirely from 27 April (https://twitter.com/lilithepunk/status/1254869636371353600?s=20) so this does suggest something to do with their update on 28 April. As I’m not a Yoast premium member, they are refusing to enter into dialogue with me! Do you know what else I can try please?
    Thanks again, Ben.

Is it possible to disable Twitter-Sharing in the Yoast-Plugin? As the Tracks-Theme works fine with twitter by default: https://twitter.com/Kiezkickerde/status/1254751385880592384

Did you setup your facebook-settings as it is written in the twitter-description in Bens Screenshot (“add open graph metadata”)?

    Hi Kiezkickerde
I’m not sure how to do that, sorry! Do you know? I didn’t set up Facebook as I don’t have an account there.
    Many thanks

    Hi,

no, sorry I don′t use this plugin – I just saw that screenshot by Ben and thought this might be a possible case, too. ??

No worries! It was really of kind of you to try and help, thanks, Liza

    Liza,

You’re right about the Yoast update. It says this in the changelog from the 28th:

“No longer outputs a twitter:title, twitter:image and/or twitter:description meta tag when there is already an og:title, og:image and/or og:description meta tag specified in the frontend output and they’re not specifically set to something else.”

This explains why the Twitter tags are missing. I’m a bit confused because I thought Twitter would just use the OG tags instead, but maybe that’s not the case.

A solution you can use now is to edit the Twitter info for the post and then the tags should show up. Here is where you can set the image, title, and description of a post specifically for Twitter: https://screenshot.competethemes.com/9ZuERXOy

You beauty! That works like a dream, thank you! And thank you for delving deeper and getting to the bottom of it.
