Hi, I’m trying to promote some content in japanese using Yoast but word count doesn’t work since there is no almost blank spaces in japanese writting.
Also, can’t use japanese characters in slug since it changes to something like this:

    %e3%82%b9%e3%83%9a%e3%82%a4%e3%83%b3%e3%81%ae%e5%ad%a6%e6%a0%a1

?Any advice for japanese SEO? Thank you very much!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @figurika,

We understand that Yoast SEO’s content analysis doesn’t support counting words or recognizing text in Japanese, so we thank you for bringing it to our attention.

We already have a feature request for better support for Japanese that we’re tracking here: https://github.com/Yoast/YoastSEO.js/issues/761.

Unfortunately, we don’t have an estimated date when these features will be added. If you’d like to keep track of the progress of this issue, we recommend following the GitHub feature request or adding a comment.

Thanks for your help, but don’t worry it’s ok. I’m using free version of the plugin.
My site is encoded in spanish and it’s not multilanguage. Only some post are in japanese. Anyway, I’m not sure if it’s really useful to optimize the posts according the plugin recommendations if they do not even take in consideration japanese language. I Hope they’ll fix it, but I can live without it. Best regards.
