    Hi Sybre,

    Just to be sure:

If I want to go from Yoast SEO to your plugin, what is the correct order?

    1. install The SEO Framework plugin
    2. install SEO Data Transporter plugin
    3. do the conversion.
    4. delete SEO Data Transporter plugin
    5. delete Yoast SEO

Or do I need to install The SEO Framework plugin at the end?

In short: what is the preferred order of doing this?

  • I have the exact same question.

I have been using Yoast SEO version 2.3.5 and have been very reluctant to update Yoast because of the many complaints and problems people have had since version 3.0 and up… It is time to change to another plugin, and SEO Frameworks has gotten great reviews.

I just want to make sure I do the correct steps in the correct order.

Just found this on the SEO Data Transporter forum…

Neither SEO plugin needs to be active as long as the SEO meta data from the old plugin is still present in your database. If you already have an SEO plugin active, a typical workflow might look like this:

    1. Take a full backup of your database.
    2. Leave your old or new SEO plugin active.
    3. Run SEO Data Transporter.
    4. Deactivate the old SEO plugin and activate the new one if you have not done so already.
    5. Review your posts and make sure your SEO data was copied over.
    6. Deactivate SEO Data Transporter if you wish (it doesn’t need to remain active once the migration is complete).

The SEO meta data from your original plugin is removed once it’s migrated, which is why it’s important to take the backup first just in case.

This looks like the steps and order to take for the transfer?

    Hi guys,

The order has been explained well right here.

The SEO plugins don’t have to be activated, as the data is handled statically within the database and is attached per each post.
It won’t hurt either to have them activated, the data updating is only handled on post save on the plugins.

Please be aware that some SEO plugins store the full title (including blogname) in their options. Be sure to remove those afterwards if you find them. In the next version you’ll be notified of such through the SEO Bar.

    Making a backup won’t hurt.
The SEO Data Transporter is meant to be a one-time use plugin. So you can safely deactivate and delete it after use.

All with all, if you find any issues, let me know and I’d be glad to help you out!

Best of luck and have a wonderful day!

Thanks bkglass and Sybre. This is the confirmation I needed. I’ll do my first test the coming week and if that works more will follow…

    I’ll set this to resolved.
