For a couple of years, I had been sending using SendGrid. But the past few months, when I try to send a test e-mail, I get this message:

Error Sending Message SMTP works with MailPoet to [email protected] | Bad username / password
Error Sending Message SMTP works with MailPoet to [email protected] | Bad username / password

If I switch to using my own server, the mail goes through with no issue.

The username and password I’m using work to log in to Sendgrid itself. And I haven’t changed them since the last time Sendgrid did work. Has MailPoet lost the ability to send with Sendgrid, or what is going on?

  • Hi Carol,

Are you sending using SendGrid’s API?

If not, can you please generate one on your SendGrid’s account and let us know if it works?

    Thank you!

I am having a hard time figuring out how to do that. Right now, when I click on login on the Sendgrid site, it sends me to https://app.sendgrid.com/login, which says,

    This page isn’t working
    app.sendgrid.com didn’t send any data.
    ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

On the MailPoet Settings page, I can check or uncheck a box that says:

    web API
Activate if your SMTP ports are blocked.

If it is checked, I get the message shown above. If it is unchecked, I get:

Error Sending Message SMTP works with MailPoet to [email protected] | SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

I was finally able to log in to Sendgrid. I set up Sendgrid’s API. I followed the instructions on setting up SMTP settings. However, now when I attempt to send an e-mail, it just puts up a popup that says,

    Sending a test email
    Loading

And that message never goes away. After a very long time, it puts up a second popup that says:

    Request error not JSON
    <title>The page is temporarily unavailable</title>

There are several lines of HTML code below that, but the general message is, “The page you are looking for is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.”

Carol, please reach us with the form at the bottom of all your MailPoet pages in the admin. A little patience is required since we do have a lot of free support queries at the moment.

    Thanks!

It looks like this got resolved when I upgraded to MailPoet 3. Thanks!
