The site in question is [ redundant link removed ]

Both result in an error message in a red frame, that message couldn’t be sent.

The theme is Enfold, several plugins active. Provider is HostEurope.

On the same server in a different directory I have a copy of the website for development purposes, which hadn’t been updated yet.

I updated all plugins one by one and successfully sent a message after each update.
Finally WP was updated from 5.6.2 to 5.7. After this update sending fails, also with all plugins deactivated (except CF7) and the theme Twenty Twenty-One.

    Reverting CF7 to v 5.3.2 doesn’t make a difference; the error persists.

To double check, I installed CF7 v 5.4 on a different server, hosted by all-inkl.com. This is WP 5.7, theme Twenty Twenty-One. Here sending works. (There is access control on that site; I would provide link and username/password in a private mail on request.)

As stop-gap I installed WPForms Lite both on the test site at all-inkl.com and the development site on HostEurope.

Again on HostEurope sending fails (albeit this plugin indicates the message had been sent, but no mail is received). On the site at all-inkl.com the message is actually sent and received.

So possibly something in WP 5.7 has changed, which both plugins use to send their mails. Depending on the server setup sending works or fails. In that sense, it might be a WordPress problem rather than one of CF7. However, my programming skills are too limited to determine what’s happening.

I would greatly appreciate any help, or a suggestion on where to post about the problem. Thank you!

Two more items: another user, who posted here, wrote in a private mail that on Strato servers sending works as well.

Setting debug to true in WP and logging for warnings and errors at HostEurope does not produce any output.

If desired, I could provide the output of phpinfo for both servers.

    Cheers, Stefan

    Hi,

I doubt it’s a mail server problem. Using the plugin ‘WP Downgrade’ I brought WordPress back to version 5.6.2 on the development site. Now sending works again.
On the public site (WP 5.7 / CF7 5.4) I took out the forms because they are not sending.

Another client on a HostEurope setup (this one a virtual server) is current on WP and CF7; here sending appears to work.

I’ll be glad to mail the output of phpinfo of all three servers, if that’s helpful.

    Cheers, Stefan

As soon as I have the time, I’ll install an empty WordPress on some clients’ servers (all HostEurope). If sending with CF7 and other mail-plugins fails on all of them, I’ll contact HostEurope again to check the server configurations.

On the public website mentioned above, the forms work again after downgrading WP to 5.6.2.

    Cheers, Stefan
