I am locked out of my own website (filling in a wrong password). When this happens I alwyas use the Send unlock mail option to get access again.

However, this option is not working anymore on multiple websites. There is simply no unlock email send anymore.

What can be the issue here? Thank you for your help!

Hi @wp-opti, thanks for reaching out.

If these used to work and have stopped, the emails come from your site rather than our servers so I would first look into the possibility of:

    • The emails (they may come from [email protected]) might be sent to junk mail folders by your email client or provider. Make sure and whitelist or add your website to the list of safe domains so you get emails consistently.
    • Sometimes a restart of postfix or sendmail (whichever is installed on your web server) can fix it. Your hosting provider may need to help with this.
    • If you have a third party plugin for sending emails with another service, like Gmail, it could be stopping these alerts from going out. Reaching out to the plugin author for support can help.

If you need to urgently regain access in the mean time, temporarily renaming your /wp-content/plugins/wordfence plugin folder to “wordfence_bak” and logging into your site using your username/password combination could be successful. Just make sure to name it back again once you’re finished.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
