    Hello,

I used the following configuration, but I can’t seem to send test email. The error message is below. Any idea what is going on, and how I can solve it?

    Thanks!

Can I use this plugin to send email via Gmail / Google Apps
Yes. Use these settings: Mailer: SMTP SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com SMTP Port: 465 Encryption: SSL Authentication: Yes Username: your full gmail address Password: your mail password

    Sign-in attempt prevented
    Hi Hello,
Someone just tried to sign in to your Google Account from an app that doesn’t meet modern security standards.

    Thanks, Jason.

This is how I solved it:

    https://myaccount.google.com/u/1/security

Scroll down to Connected Apps & Sites, then look for the following:

    Allow less secure apps: ON
Some non-Google apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which could leave your account vulnerable. You can turn off access for these apps (which we recommend) or choose to use them despite the risks.

Make sure Allow less secure apps is ON.

That helped me solve my problem ??

Disabling security is certainly one way to get it working ??

Just to add, this item is marked as “resolved”, however the issue still exists, and rather someone simply provided a temporary solution which is to lower your google account security to get this plugin which uses lower security methods to work. I’m grateful for the suggestion since it buys us sometime while the plugin author fixes the issue or time to find an alternative plugin.

Would be great to hear an update from the plugin author on when the plugin will be updated to support googles security protocols so that we can re-enable full security in our google accounts, also since that Google setting is most likely temporary during the transition and I imagine Google eventually will remove the option entirely in the future.

I agree about the drawback of lowering security. The dealbreaker is my imaginary conversation with my client, telling them to lower their gmail security. It’s not a solution.

This solution at least got me to the point where my message sent successfully, but the message still isn’t showing up in my gmail account. But maybe it’ll work for others.
