Everything I’ve searched seems to focus on importing external calendars into WP sites, however, I’d like to create a simple event date link/button on a WordPress page that allows visitors to add the event to their own external calendar. Most of our users have Outlook, but if the solution works for ical, etc., that would be great. I’m pretty new, so I have the fear that I’m just not using the correct language to find what I’m looking for… Hope that’s not the case, and thanks for any help you all can provide.

If you look at the major calendar plugins like All In One Event Calendar and The Event Calendar, you’ll see that they offer an “Add to Calendar” or “Subscribe” link/button. Install one of them (or view their code online) to see how they do it.

I know the fallback is to make it a link to a .vcf or .ics file, but there are other techniques for going directly to the calendars for the major vendors like MSFT and Google.

Thank you! I guess I interpreted the calendar plugins incorrectly; I thought they created a stand-alone calendar for a category of events…and thought I had to go to the .ics file direction. I’m learning a new language here and really appreciate your kind help!
