Selling Free Items – Paypal won't accept zero amount

    We are using the cart to sell memberships, and one of the memberships is free. But Paypal will not allow checkout with a zero amount.

    Is there a way to make the buy button link to another page, just for the one item that is free? Free members still get a gift, so we need to collect their names and addresses. I was thinking of having a special page just for the free one where it has a form for them to fill out instead of the checkout page.

    How can redirect just one of the items to a different page than the rest?

    Are there any other ways to deal with free items?

    Hi, You don’t have to make the button for the free item via the shopping cart. Simply create a link/button that is a straight link to the special page where free members can go and signup for free.

    I apologize, I needed to add more details.

    I am using the product display box shortcode in a 2 column, 3 row table so all the memberships appear on one page together with the same button, text style, and picture size for each one. I was hoping to use a product display box for the free one too, so that it matches the rest.

    But with the product display box I do not have any individual control over where the buy button links to. I can only designate a single external checkout page that applies to all. Is there a way I can change the target of the buy button for just one of them when using the product display boxes?

    I see what you mean.

    The simple shopping cart plugin doesn’t have an option to override the button’s target URL value unfortunately. The WP eStore plugin has an option to do that:

    You could put a different section on this page where you place the link for the “Free” option. I understand the look you are trying to achieve but I think it is perfectly okay if you take the free option out of the table and put it on its own section.
