• Hello,
I have a website that has gone un-touched for about a year, and is behind on a few core updates.

When I try updating from 4.1.7 To 4.3 I get the success message, however, following the update the WordPress admin area still looks like 4.1.7 admin area.

    I have tried the following:

    1. Deactivating all plugins
    2. Switching to a different theme
    3. one-click update
    4. Manual update.
    5. Replacing the update.php
    6. Ran a malware scan

I have tried removing all files except for those in the root folder, with no success.

After running the core update, and running a malware scan, this caught my eye.

    Versions
    WordPress version: WordPress 4.3
    Wordpress version from source: 4.3
WordPress Version 4.1 based on: https://reinhamilton.com/wp-includes/js/autosave.js

I tried replacing this file manually wp-includes/js/autosave.js with no success.

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Try a manual update as follows:

    1. Take a full backup first (site files + database)
    2. Delete all the existing WordPress related directories/files from the root, *except* the wp-content directory and wp-config.php file (don’t delete these)
    3. Download a fresh version of WordPress 4.3 to your local machine
    4. Upload the new WordPress files (excluding wp-content and wp-config.php) to the root of the site through your host provided file manager (e.g. cPanel) or FTP client such as Filezilla

Unfortunately that didnt work like i had hoped. If you have anything else up your sleeve, I will certainly entertain it.

    Thank you

Very strange. The only things I can suggest are:

    a) to check the permissions for that autosave.js file, which should be 644
    b) run this issue past your host
    c) wait for someone else to chime in here with a suggestion

Indeed, of all the WordPress websites I have this is the first time in 3 years I have come across this.

I appreciate you taking the time to assist.
