• I’ve been having issues with my self-hosted WordPress blog since I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress.

I had this self-hosted blog (www.meganbastian.com/wordpress) running smoothly for a while, until in January when I upgraded wordpress to v3.3.1, I suddenly lost my theme and my blog no longer shows up in my blogger dashboard. I can no longer access the backend through https://www.meganbastian.com/wordpress/wp-login.php, because when I enter my username and password, it redirects to https://www.meganbastian.wordpress.com.

I also have another blog on wordpress.com (www.meganbastian.wordpress.com) which I use for testing purposes. Is having both of these domains a cause of my issue? I’ve read a few other similar posts and haven’t found a solution. Any advice is appreciated.

  • That’s your problem. You will need to change that so that it links to your site correctly.

I recommend editing your previous post to remove your ftp information.

Previous post updated. Thanks for the tip.

So what would the correct language be for this?

And thanks for sticking with me on this issue. I really appreciate it.

Delete the .htaccess or upload a blank one so that you can access your admin area. Then go to the permalinks section.

That was the blank one that I had added in, which has apparently rewritten (once added into my ftp client) to contain that line I posted earlier.

mmm. I’m not sure what’s wrong. It’s difficult to resolve this without doing this myself. Have you spoke to your host about it?

Deleting the .htaccess file brings me back to my original state (no error messages) but no theme or formatting to the blog and no backend access.

I haven’t spoken to my host but can certainly give it a shot.

Speak to your host. If they can’t help you, feel free to email me via my site and I can take a look at it. I should be able to resolve it within a few minutes.

Your host should be able to help you with this though.

Thanks so much Kevin, you’ve been an enormous help in narrowing down the issue! I’ll post an update once I get a chance to contact the host.

No problem. let us know how you get on.

    Hi Kevin

I’m going to move my discussion over to the thread I started a few days ago. We have another one over there, and Meg, definitely come on over.

Update: My problem has been solved! I got in touch with my host, and they emailed me step-by-step instructions on how to get into the database and change the site_url within the options there. I’d post the steps here, but I’m assuming they would be different for every host. Somehow the URL had gotten changed, I’m thinking the wordpress upgrade must have confused it somehow (because I had never logged into the database area prior to now). As soon as I changed the site-url within the database, my theme was restored and I was able to access my WordPress back end again!

So I went ahead and changed my site url to meganbastian.com/blog while I was at it.

Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice/guidance.

Cool…mines back to normal too – it was a .htaccess issue !

This is how my site actually looks

My host got it back together.

    Cheers
