    Hi guys,

We’re currently using the self certification checkbox in our checkout. However, I noticed that the checkbox is not a required field for submission of the form. I was just wondering if there was a specific reason for this?

In my opinion, would this not be better set as required?

I’m happy to set this up myself, but I wanted to check this before making any changes.

    Thanks!

    Phil

The self certification is only set as required if there isn’t enough evidence to prove customer’s location. If the country derived from customer’s IP address and the billing country match, then the evidence is sufficient and the self certification is not needed. The same applies if the customer enters a valid EU VAT number, which is also checked against the billing country.

In short, the following evidence is taken into account:
    – Country from IP address.
    – Billing country.
    – VAT number country.

If any two of the above match, the self certification is not required.

Ah ok cool, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for confirming!
