Selecting events by category

This has been giving me trouble – I’ve looked for an answer, but can’t find anything.

I’d like to have a category list (same as standard WP posts) which links to a filtered list of events. The plugin’s widget doesn’t do this.

I’ve looked at/tried several plugins which deal with custom post types, but Events post type or categories/taxonomy doesn’t show up in any of them.

Does Events List implement a custom post type? If it does, why can’t I see it anywhere?

I’m using Headway as my theme – it usually plays nice with plugins.

Looking back over the support section on WP.org, I’m surprised no one seems to have asked for this before. Does that mean it can be done and that I just haven’t worked it out?
